NOV Energy Equipment is seeking a highly motivated Robotics, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineer. With a strong track in robotics and machine automation you will contribute to and be part of a team whose main objective is to design and develop new, and refine existing, robotic systems for automation solutions in oil and gas drill floor activities. The successful candidate will work as a part of a multi-disciplined team to integrate and deliver robotic and machine automation systems based on NOV's ATOM RTX robotic system.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The main responsibilities for this role include;
- Collaborates with development and product engineers, sales and product line management, project managers, clients and other stakeholders to understand the requirements and scope of robotic and automation projects.
- Review existing drill floor designs and equipment with a view to integrating hands free and/or automated pipe handling and drilling utilizing NOV's ATOM RTX robotic technology.
- Develop and compile engineering concepts, sketches, or other documentation demonstrating proposed ideas and prototypes, for submittal to clients during bid and post-sale stage of projects.
- Participate in client technical meetings and interactions to present and refine application concepts and layouts for hands free and automated pipe handling and drilling using NOV's ATOM RTX robotic system.
- Engineer and configure project specific ATOM RTX deliverables in conjunction with development and product engineering for deployment onto NOV and customer assets.
- Support of internal and customer witnessed acceptance testing of NOV ATOM RTX robotics system at NOV facilities during installation and acceptance testing and commissioning.
- Support of NOV' s ATOM R TX robotics system during installation, commissioning, site integration and acceptance testing at customer facilities and installations.
- Work with aftermarket disciplines such as tech support, field service and training, in a back-office supporting/consulting role for field deployed systems to address system design and performance issues, create, validate, and implement relevant test methods.
- Travels domestically and internationally to customer facilities and installations to support/oversee installation and commissioning activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in a related engineering field with practical experience in robotics and/or industrial automation (essential)
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of experience in designing and implementing, or installation and commissioning of robotic and/or machine controls systems, using PLC or embedded controllers (essential)
- Experience of hydraulic systems and servo control (desirable)
- Experience and working knowledge of programming HMI systems (desirable)
SKILLS, TRAINING OR SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE:
- Working knowledge and experience of PLC and high-level languages such as Java, C, C++, LabView, Siemens, and operating systems such as Linux
- Working knowledge of robotics platforms and tool kits both vendor specific (such as ABB, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, Kuka, etc) and vendor independent systems (such as ROS and ROS Industrial)
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control system principles using P&ID, electrical and hydraulics schematics
- Working knowledge of relevant safety regulations pertaining to robotics deployments
- Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software such as Solidworks, Inventor, ProE to create accurate engineering models, drawings, and schematics
